It started as a Franco-Ontarian settlement (St. Anne’s Parish Church, 1858, marks the beginning of the village), grew up around the railway, and was incorporated as a town in 1921.
In 1999, it amalgamated with the Village of St. Clair Beach and the Township of Sandwich South into the larger Town of Tecumseh you know today — nearly doubling its size.
That French heritage is still everywhere, from the street names to St. Anne’s, and there’s a strong Italian community too (Tecumseh is even twinned with Frosinone, Italy).
